Could somebody tell me if the main engine in the d2 5j is the same engine in the 5u. I am not a machanic and my skills are very limited. I have a d25j1370 that needs a lot of work, so iam trying to find all the books i can on it. I know that for the tractor the 5j and the 5u are not the same, so I am not sure if this is true for the motor. Thanks for any help, Dave

The 5J uses the D3400 engine and the 5U uses the D311 And the 5J is a 3 3/4" bore engine and the D311 is a 4" bore. They are mostly a totally different engine in most cases except the starting engines which are pretty much the same with a few modifications.

Hi slurrydog. .If you're in eastern Oregon, Dale at Western States Cat is a good guy to work with finding manuals. I've ordered several reproductions through him, also he's a whiz on these older critters.
