Was pushing some  gravel and went to turn right and something let go in the brake linkage. From what I've seen on other machines my guess would be the end of the brake band failed. Looking at the servicemen's  manual it shows removing the steering clutch pivot shafts to access the brake bands. I have a winch on the machine where the shafts come out. So the question is can the brakes be removed without pulling  the shafts or am I going to have to remove the winch to get the shafts out of the way

You might get lucky and only lost the retaining pin? Some folks have finessed new brake bands in sections thru the top, without removal of bevel gear shaft etc.
Get an inexpensive bore scope and look in the bowels of your machine before tearing into it. JM

Thanks for the tips, its a little late in the season to tear it apart since its my just in case we get the big one snowstorm. I'll probably tear into it next summer.
I can deal with one steering brake for now.
