Hi folks,
I’m not clear on the adjusting procedure. Should I adjust the flywheel clutch interlock linkage first ( how to I do that properly) then do the clutch brake?
any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't have a manual and I'm not sure how to adjust the flywheel clutch on a D4D. Manuals are a must, probably the first three should be a parts catalog, operating & maintenance and most important would be a Service Manual. Manuals can easily be found on eBay from $20 - $100 each. ACMOC has an extensive library of manuals on old Caterpillars available to members at a fraction of the price.
I hope that helps.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I have several manuals in through the searches nothings really clear if you can’t push the flywheel clutch lever forward. I’m gonna call the Cat tech hotline and see if they have some old mechanic that worked on these Bulldozers they may be able to give me more direction. Again thanks for the suggestion I’ll let you know if I find anything out

Hi Cat-bruce, if you put your serial number up im sure someone will have information to do so, I have a D2 & D4 with dry clutch so I doubt my pointers would help? On both machines they push forwards to release, they over centre the cam system to release, pull back they snap in position to lock clutch up to drive, handles close to vertical or slightly rear wards to operator. If you have dry clutch try to have a look inside to make sure something moves and not rusted together as a start.

82J2818 is the serial number. Nothing is locked up. The pad to flywheel is simple what is not happening is the flywheel clutch handle is in the release status. I can not move the handle forward to lock the brake pad to the flywheel. The adjuster is at the top it can be for the handle.
Thanks

Hi folks finally fixed the problem. Turns out that the original adjuster for the handle was broken. Got a new one and noticed it was 2 inches longer. Put it in the tractor and I was able to adjust clutch per the manual. Problem solved. Thanks for all the input.
