Have you removed and cleaned the elbow under the tank? They love to block up with crud and cause all kinds of spluttering.

Yes Kittyman, crap from the tank tends to get caught up in the elbow under the tank where it connects to the fuel line and starves the machine of diesel. Just a thought. Has happened to me a couple of times on various machines.

and yes a bit of shit floating around in the tank could cause a intermittent problem.
another member here described a issue with a pilot engine that would run for a while then shut down he found it was a old reciept that had been stuffed in the filler neck had fallen in the tank unbeknown to him. and it would be drawn to the outlet and block it. when it shut off it would float away engine would run fine till it was drawn to the outlet again.
so its worth a try drain the tank blow all the lines back, remove and clean the tank and fill with fresh fuel

I don't know much about D5 Tractors, however a question. Do they have an oil governor? If so, I can see that when the oil warms up and gets thin that the governor could start wanting to shut the engine down if the governor is very worn. Just a thought.

Yes, and I verified more than once fuel pours out when removing fuel bowl. Also when its idling if I crack the vent by the big filter housing fuel shoots out the burp tube by block at a high flow rate.
I reinstalled the injectors after the shop "looked" at them and its now running poorly even at cool temps and even closer to idle so I'm thinking its the injector nozzles (Cat calls fuel valves PN 8M-1584). So I'm going to order some new ones *Gulp* and give that a try.

it might be worth a call to the boys at area diesel srvice if your in the states. they do work on some of this older gear. they might have a reconed set or be able to redo yours.
