Would exhaust from a modern car with all the clean air devices still prevent combustion?
Years ago drove into the yard of a weld shop, engine driven welder running at high idle nobody around anywhere. Then I saw the hose on the exhaust of welder running to a tank. They are still in business, but with wine taking the whole area over they became the stainless-steel tank experts today.

diesel exhaust works so does dry ice which is essentially liquid carbon dioxide with the pressure taken off it. much easier to transport than liquid co2. the idea is you displacing the oxygen and fuel fumes.
the uncle has welded diesel tanks on trucks and earth moving gear fill it to normal full level with diesel before welding and have at it don't stop till the crack is welded and don't have the cap on.
