I have D8 Serial Number 9A1798. It was built in 1958. I did not know there was a 9A. It is a great running low time ex military machine and I am trying to adjust the brakes and steering clutches. It looks like I will need a trained snake with a crooked wrench. Anybody know the best way ? How would I get a manual for this machine ?
Thanks in advance,
Forbes

The serial number book shows it as a 1956.
Ebay has some repro manuals for about $75 but maybe someone on the board has repair, operators, parts etc.
Good luck

Is the 9A different than the 14A ? It has wet clutches but I can't find the brake adjusting screws numbers 1 & 2 . I have the seat off and both covers removed.

Hi, forbesmathews.
What you have there is the military version. 9A is the same serial number that most if not all of the SD8 LGP tractors that went to Greenland and Antarctica were based on. Mary Ann, the first of the Antarctic SD8 LGPs, often called 'stretched D8s, was built in 1953, when Cat was changing over from the 2U series to the 13A, at least 2 years before the 13A was dropped for the 14A model, which is what I understand the 9A was based on.
Hope this helps..
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
