951B - What Motor?

We just got a 951B serial 86J00840. We're trying to find out what motor is in it but are completely new to any Cats. I've narrowed it down to a D330, 330c, or 3304. Which motor am I looking at here?

Since not very many of us are mind readers maybe a picture or a serial number of said motor would help?
Otherwise we would be guessing which motor came in it 50 something years ago.

86J0840 would have the D330c engine.

Thanks! Now for the next question. The machine overheats after a half hour of work so we pulled the thermostat out. The part number is 9S3808 and it doesn’t look like the one I find if I search for a D330c thermostat. I’ll attach a picture of our thermostat. Is this a replacement thermostat or is it not a D330c? I searched the part number off our thermostat and it seems to be off a D4D.

Here’s the tag on the motor and a few other pictures.

9S3808 is the correct regulator.

Hi, Breezy Hollow.
I didn't have a lot to with 951Bs but the folks I spoke with who did said they were renowned for over-heating. The 951Cs had apparently 'cured' this issue and apparently had 'sports car' performance but hadda habit of cracking final drive housings.

Given that the Bs hadda habit of over-heating, I am wondering if some sort of 'header tank' might have helped.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Kinda looks like your fan belts are wore out.

Yeah those belts do have some wear on them. However the fan seems to be moving plenty of air and the pump is gear driven. If you pull the radiator cap you can see that water is circulating. We put the thermostat in a pot of water on the stove. It started to open at 180 degrees and was fully open by 195. Is that normal? The number stamped on the thermostat is 170.

Should start opening at 170 deg. and wide open (3/8" lift) at 185 deg.
