D4 5T update was created by kenmcal
I thought I would give an update on the D4-5T project. I got the pinion shaft turned around, steering clutches installed, transmission cover back on, fenders, fuel tank, seat, radiator, yadayada... I cranked on it for about 1 1/2 hours and couldn't get the fuel to prime up, so I hooked air pressure to the tank and blew the fuel up, finally got it primed and started up, but it has no fuel pressure. It will start and run but it don't have any power. When the governor opens up and calls for more fuel its just not there. But it runs, moves, and steers does everything else like it should. I picked up a 7J parts tractor. Again, somebody was going to change the steering clutches, they just got this one tore down then abandoned it. NO finess in taking it apart though. Gas axe on most of it. Will the fuel pump off of the 7J fit the 5T? Can't remember the serial number off of the 7J. Its 7J11 something. :D Also picked up a 1963 Snow Shou snow cat. Serial number 7 thats purty cool. You have to excuse the pictures they were taken with my cell phone, kinda blurry.

Kenmcal-
Great news. Check this link for some suggestions. It has various information and potential solutions short of changing out the pump.

I might be inclined to change the filters. I got mine from NAPA. Waiting to change them out until she is back and running.

Bernie: Thanks for the help. I checked out the link. I had already tried everything but the filters. I might give that a whirl before I tear into the pump. You don't happen to have a cross reference for the filter numbers do you? For Wix/Fram etc. The last set I bought from Cat was for a D2 and they were about $80. I think that was for all filters though, can't remember for sure its been a couple years ago. I am hoping to get the blade on it this weekend so it will be ready to push snow this winter.

Thanks Again,
Ken

I paid $48.64 from Cat a couple monthes ago. That included Gaskets and 8.5% sales tax. I think the 2 Filter Housing gaskets were about $5 which would the filters at about $39 plus Tax.
How does your fuel look in the tank. I ended up and had algae growing in my tank, it took a super flush and a filter change. I had water in the tank from I don't where or I brought the Cat that way a year earlier.

Hi kenmcal,
Yes, the pumps will interchange.
Unusual to have zero pressure....check the relief valve operation.

Fuel filters are a Wix 33164 pr Napa 3164. Cat price is competitive at about $10 each.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE

OM: Thanks for the numbers. I cleanded out the check valve, I wonder if it is seaten good though? I done it at night with a flash light. I might look into it again tomorrow. It has no fuel pressure at all. The guage does not even move. When I had air pressure hooked up to the tank the guage went up to caution, but I did get the fluids changed in it today and the old cable dozer back on it and operational. I have never been around a cable dozer.. Kinda cool. :D I could see where it would be easy to two block it though. Here is some pictures of it with the dozer on it...

Hey Ken do you still have the final drive assembly for that 7J. I am in need of sprockets and drives if you are needing to sell. Thanks. We have an RD4 that has low fuel pressure also. I am wondering if that is why it lacks power.
