JBayer: I do have the final drives and sprockets. Would definiately be interested in selling them. The sprockets have been replaced and are in good shape. e-mail me at: <a href="This email address is being protected from spambots. JBayer: Nope, your email did not come through. You may want to look into the low fuel pressure on RD4. I tore my 5T apart today, blew out all the passages and cleaned everything up. It pegs the pressure out on the guage now. It starts right up, no more missing, no more white smoke. I put the blade in the dirt and am amazed at how it pushes. Hard to believe its the same Cat. Maybe you can try a "PM" to contact me.

I would like to thank everybody for their help on this. I think all I have to do is to change the water temp guage and a few more covers to put on. The 7J has a narly homemade belly pan that I think I will put on the 5T. I am starting to like the cable blade. One small problem though, does anyone know how the internals work on the winch? Seems to be a little sluggish when raising/lowering sometimes, other times it works great. It is full of oil. It almost seems like it runs off of oil pressure. Is this the case or no? It has a wind to it like it has a pump cavitating. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,
Ken

Hi Ken,
The winch is a LeTourneau unit.
They have a weird model identification.
It is a "T" model classification, N series model AN4
They are a bull gear drive with cone type clutch.
Should be a serial/model number plate on top.

kenmcal - The LeTourneau cable control, or Power Control Unit as LeTourneau termed them, are a very basic design .. exactly as OM described .. but they have quirks in their operation that means you need the manual to understand how those quirks need to be handled.

One of their quirks is, that you cannot do a clutch or brake adjustment on a stand-alone basis. Both clutch and brake have to be adjusted together. The cone clutch correct alignment is crucial to smooth operation.
I have professional copies of the LeTourneau PCU operation, maintenance and repair manual available for a modest cost .. email or PM me, if you'd like a copy.

Hi Ken,
I would suggest you take Ozdozer's offer on the manuals. They are not a real easy manual to follow and requires some studying mostly because they continually cross reference the various models so that one manual covers all. Machine itself is pretty basic.

OM: Thanks again. I don't know what I would do without your wisdom :D . I think I am going to try an electric start addition in the spring so I will probably have a bunch of questions for you. I am 3 and 0 on direct electric start on D2's this will be my first D4 though. I have already been out to your page and checked it out. I am thinking I need to replace the seal in the transmission cover. I want to convert to hydraulic and do the direct electric. I am keeping the pony though, this one starts on the first pull every time. It has electric start on the pony too, but I don't think I will hook that up. I am also planning a dupont overhaul :D. Looking forward to posting pictures of it pushing snow this winter. Speaking of the white stuff, where is King of Obsolete? Is he still Cat fishing in the great white north?

OzDozer: Thanks for the offer, but I am actually just trying to struggle through this winter with the cable, I am planning on converting it to hydraulic this spring. I recently sold my last D2, and kinda paniced and needed a plow, so I just threw the cable control back on it for this winter to get me through winter. I also found that the block was twisted, this made a big difference on how the blade lowered.

Kenmcal-
Friendly suggestion from someone who has benefited tremendously from investing in good and reliable parts and reference books-get the manual from OzDozer now so when you need it/want it, you have it.
