Hello there! Can you tell me, when the R2 Tractor with the number 4J946SP was built and how many Tractors with the 4J number were made? Regards Michael.

Hello emem,
Can I assume from your question that you own 4J946SP ?
I own R2 4J970SP, and I am in the process of restoring it. It does need a lot of work !

Hello John! I write from Germany and i'm going to sell my grandpas R2. www.acmocbb.org/ACMOC_BB/showthread.php?t=4818 Grandpa and his friend had spent a lot of time to make the R2 as well as it is now. Now grandpa is gone but his R2 is still here. I dont have the time to take care of the R2 so i have to find someone who will do this. Regards, Michael. PS.: Do not know, if my price idea realistic.

Hi Michael, It looks a very tidy machine, is it in running order ?
The Mag is different to mine which is an Eismann. I think perhaps the mag on your grandpa's tractor is a Wico, maybe it was fitted later ?
Regarding price, I have no idea. Caterpillar only made around 1185 of each of the 4J (Narrow gauge) and the 6J (Wide gauge), so they are quite rare. Aparantly a lot of the production came to UK.
Good luck with the auction !

Dear John! Te R2 is in good running order but apart from that i dont know mutch about the tractor and tractor technical bases generally. I detected, that grandpa had built a perfect new gasoline tank out of stainless steel. He was a great mechanic! When i look at other original R2 tanks in the internet, i couldnt see a different to his stainless steel tank. Also sometime the radiator was renewed, because grandpa had a crash with a drawbar as his friend told me. ;-)
