Quick Question on D6B S/N

Went with a freind yesterday to look at a D6B 44A . Tractor is in fairly good shape..finals have been rebuilt a few years ago. Farmer used it to do some clearing and dozing and when he passed it was purchased by a neighbor who is a contractor. Undercarrige has some life left, has a heavy FELCO brush canopy/sweeps, come with a FELCO root rake, push blade, and manuual angle blade. It has sat a lot as the man runs mainly modern equipment for his business. Got a D333 Natural that runs very nice, converted to electric start, has a Hyster D6C winch..which is not working now, but will with some work. Hydraulics are crisp, it's a wide guage tractor. cylinders are pitted some. It's a direct drive and all seems to work quite well once we got it moving, brakes are good, clutches, etc. Came with a full set of original manuals...all of them.  S/N is SN:44A2664.
At first the man thought it was a 1967, but that number is low for that age....I thought maybe a '62-63'?? Anyone know, I just didn't want to try to find it. Also with all the blades, etc..my freind is paying 9K with all three blades, winch, etc. He has a couple clearing jobs on his own farm and a couple more on the books. Figures to use it on occasion after that. My advice to him was get it at that price as it will almost pay for itself on a couple jobs.   Would like to know some thoughts and also if someone can give me the year of mfg. couple pics if this works.....It's an old machine, but belly pan is straight, everything works, no blow by , radiator had no oil, clean coolant, engine oil 3/4 full and no water, tranny stick was not real milky, ne seeping at final seals......seemed like a fairly straight old machine. Thanks guys.

Hi Tim,
My D6B 44A 2546 is a 1960 Model. The biggest concern is the hydraulic pump. That pump isn't available from ANY source! Use only AW 32 hydraulic oil. DO NOT use cheap oil and risk damage to the pump! When changing the hydraulic oil bleed the air from the system with the fitting on top of the filter housing.

Thanks Craig, Yes, I do know/have heard the hyd pump on these are difficult to find/parts etc. But it seemed very strong and seemed to work well. Your S/N would say maybe this is a 60 or 61 then. OK. I did not read any notes in the manuals...He might find some in them....anyway he bought it. ACMOC best place to research. Someone always knows. I sttered him away from a 60's vintage IH TD-20... They are complicated and getting hard to find parts.

Hi Tim, my buddy has a buddy with a D6B just down the road in Hilton NY (I'm in Rochester). This one "doesn't start" and we're going to see what's stopping it from starting. I'm hoping that it's the starter motor which is taking a direct hit from the downpipe from the shed roof it's parked next to. The engine has the decompression lever sticking out the back of the head/valve cover so our thought is to release the decompressor and see if we can get the starter to turn over. If not, we'll swap the starter out and try again. Otherwise the tractor looks in ok shape. Can't remember what blade it has. Next time I'm out I'll get some photos.

Cheers,
Neil

Hey TimT,

Tell your friend welcome to the world of the D6B. I just purchased one myself recently and my serial is just a tad before his... also a '60. That is a great price especially with all the extras. I'd like to find a root rake and winch for mine. I paid $12,500 for mine and felt I got a very good deal... Your friends was an excellent deal. It always amazes me the number of variations for the ROPS. Mine is slightly older than your friends but has an entirely different ROPS on it.
