I don't have the grader home yet but should next week. The prior owner said the starting motor pinion started kicking out too soon and so he just started pull starting it. I just got the operators and parts book, and looked in the technical library but there wasn't a service book for the 8T.
My question is can the pony motor starting pinion be adjusted without removing the whole pinion assembly, i.e. is there a plate I can remove to adjust the two screws to make it stay engaged? Or does the whole pinion assembly have to come out?
Any help is appreciated.
Michael

There is a threaded plug on the top of the rear (cab side) cover that gives access to the pinion adjustment. It's a bear to get in there but it's better than having to take the whole pinion assembly apart.

Sir, thank you. I was hoping there was some access short of removing the whole thing. I watched Squatch253's videos of him rebuilding the entire pinion assembly but just so I can get by until I assess what I'm going to do I was hoping to get it functional in the mean time. I actually bought a complete running and a complete non running (but both engines are supposed to be good) grader so I hope to get both running and keep the best of the two. Thanks for your help. My local mechanic agrees, latch adjustment is not fun on an 8T grader. Mine has the "in seat" start controls from the operators platform, which are even harder, as it is a single mechanism vs a clutch and pinion lever. JM

Thanks, i’d love for it to have cab controls but maybe it will be easier that it doesn’t. I might try to video the procedure. Michael
