Do any of you know of someone who would be interested in restoring a 1929 Twenty model Caterpillar? The last time I had it running was around 1976, and I would like to get it back to running condition. I currently don't have the time or facilities to take on the project myself. I'm in the Seattle, Washington area, so someone nearby would be a plus.
Thanks,
Eric

I wonder if Bruce Petty from Asotin, WA would have any interest in doing a restoration for you. Deader the better is his motto when it comes to rusty stuff! JM

The use of track rollers for carrier rollers is an interesting idea. Good luck on finding some help. I am a bit to far away.
Thanks
Ken

I had no idea that the carrier rollers had been replaced by track rollers. Sounds like something my grandfather would do, though!

Hey Eric,
Now that's patina! All you need is a seat!
Grew up in Seattle on the north side (Mount Lake Terrace). Been in the midwest now for far to long. I have the facilities but as naylorbros stated... a bit to far away. Have just acquired a project of my own tho it won't be near as involved on a '60 D6b. Let us know if you find someone and even better, if they can document the process on YT. It would be fun to follow.

I don't understand the interest in patina. I saw a YouTube video of a guy talking about a Twenty and how he loved the patina. It looks like old, oxidized paint to me.
Speaking of which, it's not visible in the low-resolution photos, but on the sides of the hood you can see the ghost of the original, wavy "Caterpillar" logo. I haven't seen any red lettering, but it looks like the paint underneath the current Cat yellow may be the original gray.

Hi, EStrong.
Some collectors like to do full restorations back to factory specs including the paint job and some collectors like to keep their machines in their 'working clothes' or 'barn fresh', that is looking like a working machine that lived out in the weather and got what these people are calling a 'patina' - a weathered look.
It is largely a matter of personal preference and I don't see any 'right' or 'wrong' in either approach, partly 'coz I don't own any machines and so don't have 'any skin in the game, but also 'coz each collector is entitled to have their machines the way THEY want them.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks for the explanation. Some of it looks like silver paint that was slopped on there with a paint brush. That would not be inconsistent with some other things my grandfather painted.
