Here is a few shots of an early D8 tractor that I am pulling to pieces with David "the tractor" Moggerage, David is now 69 years of age and still works harder than most. This D8 is in the S.E. Davis collection (the people with the TC 12), on Tuesday I am going to remove the engine, clutch, and strip the gear box. The pictures of the Daewoo excavator show me lifting in a trackdrive gear box under its own steam. The big red shiny thing lay on the floor with a heap of bits is what i bought myself for Christmas, its a 105 tonne ram with 3 new legs the picture of the dump trucks are just some I was called out to repair, I was told to turn up to repair a dump truck, I asked which one, they said "please yourself theres nine out there and they are all MULLER'D!!!..." so I have been busy.
The pics of the glorious Atlas are just a foretaste of lots more to come, this tractor was converted by Henry Kaiser and is believed to be the first one converted in this fashion, and was kept for years in the Pleasanton aggregate plant of Kaiser Paving. As the pictures show the tractor has been restored to immaculate condition and is a true marvel to see working ( we are hoping to fit a scraper box to this tractor for the coming muck shifting season ) I will post a series of pictures following the restoration to show the full depths of the work entailed to get a tractor to this level. Sadly I didnt get to lay a single spanner on it, as they were scared I would convert it into a D7.

p.s. America may have a knackered soccer player from England, but England have got the Atlas CAT 60.....what a deal!!!

Thanks for the pics-they show some nice details of pulling the sprockets.
Why did you switch the rams? Did the older one give out on you, or maybe not enough umph?
KoO-I was wondering the same thing. They look sike some sort of rail car but the tounge does not look like any coupling I have seen on one...

Hi there King, the green waggons are for traction engine/roller drivers to live in whilst working away from home, these were towed behind the steam engine often hooked to other waggons/water carts etc as was needed within there scope of work, at the S.E.Davis Vintage yard there is stacks of machinery , steam engines,/lorrys crawler Cranes ,Motor scrapers, and possibly 200/300 tracked type tractors all shapes and breeds,I will put up some pic's soon.

The wheels look like rail wheels...any significance?
Closer look. Maybe the one on the left is showing the rims and the one on the right has rubber tires on it. Hard to see at first.

Bernie, the ram used to bang off the outer bearing hub is a heavy duty Cat 70 ton job , it is the correct ram to pull all sprockets from a D6C down to a D2, it weighs about a 100lbs, so its not to heavy to lift about a few times , the red ram weighs about 160lbs so it makes you snort a bit when you get ahold of the thing, David asked me why I had gone red in the face after lifting the red job a few times,I told him I must have breathed in a " Bad Batch of Air ", so I use the light ram if I can , that L/Hand sprocket was pumped up to 90 ton on the pressure gauge then I gave it a shot with a 28lbs sledge hammer to make it do as it was told (come off the taper).

Bernie, the steel tyres are just an early style of wheel (the Horse and Cart period) the "Dunlop" inflated rubber job is from the "Motor Car period", I will take some pic's of the cabins for you.

Today at the S.E.Davis Vintage collection ,the Editor with the top Commander of " Classic Plant " turned up to take in the atmosphere, this was Gary Boyd Hope and Peter Love, when I was introduced to Gary & Co, the Tctractor handle was soon falling off Gary's lips. I was working on one of S.E.D.'s many D8's , whipping out the engine & clutch , I felt very pleased that I gave such a good report on the last issue of the mag, (Irish approved By Neal D), as this seemed to smooth over a few sharp edges, they had a good tour around the 360 pieces of kit on the site which is very well set out with plenty of space to bang around on ,sadly I am stripping the D8 down in the pouring rain outside , but I think now I like it like that, at least I can see the sky. " It could be Darkness"
Happy to be wet, tctractors
