I have a 1954 D6-9U in really good condition that at one time was purchased new by my wife's grandfather.
I would like to replace the fuel filters and the gasket. The serial number for the machine is 9U-15595.
Any help in locating the filters and the gasket would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gary Russell

Gary,
First, try to find a parts book then check your CAT dealer for a quote. After that, try NAPA. With the older machines sometimes you have your wants but need to settle for what is available. I'd bet that CAT has what you need and likely not too horribly priced.

there is a couple of different filters some are a cartridge others are a string wound. both styles where available from the dealer a few years back when we changed them on our d4 which is a u series machine so around the same age. take the top off the filter tower and see which ones you have.
and if you dont have one get yourself a copy of the parts book covering your serial number.
the serviceman reference and owners maintenance instruction(owners book) are essential books too
to get any help from the dealers you need the part numbers becuase many of them dont have the books for the old gear anymore. but they can search by part number and find stock that way.

OK. Called Boyd Cat, they were extremely helpful. Part number of 788264 had changed 3 times into number 489-3196.
Ordered four filters and a gasket. I have the new filters and they appear to be longer than the filters on the machine.
Any one have some input if I have the correct filters?

if memory serves they are placed on sleeves and held in position with springs and washers if there the string wound type so its possible the old ones have "settled" a bit. well that is how the d4 was. cat used similar designs for all machines just bigger machines were bigger parts.
