I hired a fence building contractor that owns a D5K LGP to clear the brush from an old fenceline and build a new fence on our ranch. I chose him because I was impressed with the bulldozer brush clearing work and the fence he built on a ranch near me a few months ago. I had recently had my Fleco heavy duty rake installed on my D6B and I stacked the brush and trees that were pushed by the D5K LGP.
My fence was built in the 1960s and the brush growth was never controlled. The brush was Hackberry trees. Mesquite trees, Huisache trees and Yaupon trees. There was one large Live Oak tree (about 18 inch diameter) that was healthy but it was growing under an even larger Live Oak tree and it had grown bent. That Live Oak, a 24 inch diameter Mesquite tree and some of the larger Hackberry trees gave the D5K quite the work out but it handled them all. My D6B and I got quite the work out stacking them!
The D5K LGP is only a few years old, my D6B was built in 1960. These tractors as equipped are close to equal in weight and horsepower. I have to admit that the D5K has the D6B beat in speed, ease of operation and operator comfort!

Hi Deas,
Good point! I say fat chance!
Your comment has prompted me to contemplate what would happen if the Earth's magnetic poles reversed as some scientists predict or anything else disrupted the ability of electric devices to work. Hmm...ACMOC members machines to the rescue! LOL!

Hi, Old Magnet.
Now just WHY do I get the impression that you don't like the hi=sprocket drives??????????????
Butttt, I do agree with you that Cat style designers need to have a re-think.

Go Greta Go! Go Greta Go?.....ya that's funny stuff right there..
something i find odd is the billions and billions of ton of wood (carbon i suppose) that went up in smoke this summer in Canada, not one mention of what that could be doing to our environment, possibly contributing to global warming etc....? it only counts if it's coal or fossil fuel...?

Hi, Kittyman.
And do you EVER hear anything about the habits of a LOTTTT of native peoples of burning off an area to get the last of the game out of it before they moved on to another area? Or were they somehow 'good' fire??????
What about the volcanoes that spew enough CO2 into the atmosphere to cancel out YEARS of any human efforts to reduce atmospheric CO2?
And just WHY would you want to reduce the Atmospheric CO2 - the very stuff that all vegetation feeds on????????????????
This kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

yes Deas....most people here in western Canada believe most of the fires are deliberately started...by who and why is another question..?
-glad you brought up volcanoes...unbelievable emissions of who knows what into the atmosphere...? absolutely no control over that..
-I'm all for taking care of the planet, our home, but can we really take all the credit for everything negative that happens environment wise...?
-the thing that annoys me the most is trash/plastic dumped in the ocean...somebody deserves a kick in the kahones there...
