Cat D7E Hydraulics Question

More

I have an early Cat D7H, it has hydraulic straight tilt blade. My question is what type of hydraulic system had two separate systems for the raise and tilt function? Raise and lower is controlled by a large L-shaped lever coming out of the floor to the right of the seat (like a cable machine control lever) and tilt is a single spool valve under the powershift control lever. Is this factory or was it converted some time in the past? It has the hydraulic tank on the right fender and another tank in front of the radiator. It works fine, I'm just curious about if this arrangement is factory.

Hi, nch77.
FIRST, 'kwestyun' - is it a D7E or a D7H as they are two different beasts?

The 'lever coming out of the floor to the right of the operator' does sound like a D7E. I never did see a D7E with both styles of hydraulic tank but that does not mean they didn't exist'

The tilt control set-up that you describe sounds like "farmers/shady tree workshop" modification 'cos there was valving in that side-mounted hydraulic tank to accommodate a tilt control.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

It's an D7E for sure, I can't tell if it had the foot pedals for blade tilt but maybe it did at one time. The hydraulic tank on the fender looks jury-rigged, it has steel screw pipe for the return lines. Were there versions with a hydraulic lift but blade tilt? Like maybe this had hydraulic tilt added later? The lift lever has linkages going all the way to the front, the valve is in front of the radiator.

Early D7E's had the hyd tanks in front [#46], the later ones on the fender [173B], so it could have been added later on.

Hi Rome K/G, The 171 hydraulic system (tilt only), the 172 hydraulic system (fender mounted tank) and the 173 (front mounted tank) were all available on the D7E right from the start.
Hi nch77, I have put a great deal of info of D7E in the ACMOC library. It would be well worth the price of membership so you could access it. There are Operation and Maintenance Instructions for the tractor, the blade and the hydraulic systems. There are parts books and more. I plan on scanning my service manual (early low hp) this winter.
Here's the cover of the 16 page sales brochure introducing the D7E that is in the library. It shows all three hydraulic systems and much more.

Hi, nch77
Is your side hydraulic tank mounted alongside a fuel tank which is offset from center or mounted on the fender ahead of the fuel tank?

If you are able to post photos, that would be a big help but, as siescat said, he has posted a lot of information in the tech. library about D7Es. Your choice.

no, its by itself, no other fuel tank besides the main diesel tank. I'll get some pics and post them.
