I have a chance to buy a 12E grader. It starts and runs great, but the clutch is stuck! There is not room in the yard where it is sitting to try and maneuver it around to try and unstick the clutch so it would have to be winched on a low boy and brought home. I'm wondering what my chances of freeing up the clutch without pulling the engine. I have broke one free on a crawler before by just towing it around a field and engaging and disengaging the clutch. I have never dealt with a wet clutch before.
Right now the owner has a low ball offer that I would have to beat. Should I roll the dice and gamble on freeing the clutch and putting it to work? Or is it going to sit in my yard until I can find the time to pull the engine and replace the clutch.

Yes. It starts right up and all the controls engage. It has power steering. The engine is a D333.
I was hoping somebody had a trick for freeing the clutch. I understand that the clutch shares oil with the engine, so I shoudn't drain the clutch and fill the case with kerosene. Maybe fill the case and let it soak but not run it?

Rube I think you have got only plan for now. You will probably have to get somewhat aggressive if you get it free without getting in there to it. You never know, you might prop it depressed and go out one day and it’s free. Good luck and buy it before it gone

The 12E grader clutch is not like the lever action crawler tractor clutches. You can soak the crawler clutches because they don't share the engine oil... not the case with the 12E.
I had a stuck clutch and knowing what I know now... I wouldn't waste time trying to unstick the clutch without pulling the engine. If you have the lift capacity, pulling the engine isn't as difficult as it appears.

Put it in gear and start it up. If you want to try to free the clutch in a pinch, once you get rolling, put the moldboard into the ground and hold the clutch pedal down. Do that a few times and it may free up if it isn't stuck too bad. I've had to do this in the past on one of my 12Es. Hope this helps

Thank you all for your advise. I'll plan on the clutch needing replaced and if I can free it up I'm that much time and money ahead.
The Rube.
