I will be following this thread. Many of us have 44s as well as 41s, I would guess that has affected the operation of your pump?
It would be interesting to know if a hydraulic shop can "Parkerize" it, and lap it smooth, or have a machine shop (crank or camshaft experts?) rebuild it to specs?
You would not be the only one with this situation, being these units are so old.
One wonders if a new one is floating about in the inventory of a dealer somewhere.
Keep us posted on any progress please. JM

That looks pretty bad, I would bet the valve body is bad as well. It is my understanding that the spool and body are a fitted pair and as such, it may be difficult to repair. Your best bet might be to find a good used valve assembly, they were used on lots of tractors and most dismantlers seem to have something around, one of those things, that if you work on them very often, you pick up units or parts when you can.

maybe devcon epoxy or silicon bronze to build up the worn areas line bore the the body to a size and then machine the spool to that size.
thats how they were made the body was rough made undersize and the shaft was oversize and then machined to fit each other
silicon bronze would be my preference.
any decent machine shop should be able to do this.

Thank you for the offer of the hydraulic 44 unit. I'll keep that in mind. It is the distance from me.

That is not my hydraulic unit, just posted it to show they come up. Where are you located? I may have a valve assembly but it will be a few days before I have time to look.

What is the condition of the cartridge (pump) and input shaft, just wondering since the spool is so pitted.
