Hi, Dandy Dave.
I can remember a time - and places - when - and where - that was standard practice in DowNunda too. 'Course, that was a few years ago now.
Maybe truck drivers were more capable back then?????? And/or maybe there were fewer mad motorists around to jump out in front of them????

One earthmover in the town i grew up in had a habit of not chaining dozers onto the trailer for short moves and often there was a dozer unintentionally unloaded half way to the next destination. Luckily in areas where there was no traffic.

Hi, trainzkid88.
Heading home up the Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Hervey Bay for Christmas, 1997, I came across an excavator bucket of about 6 or 7 cu. yards capacity sitting smack in the middle of lane 1, Northbound, at the Anzac Avenue overpass at Kalangur, right under the bridge.
Just past that, there was a flat top semi pulled over on the shoulder with the rear load gate protruding horizontally straight out behind the back of the trailer and a rather unhappy looking man standing behind the trailer looking back at the bridge - - - - and, I suspect, at the bucket. There were also some broken pieces of chain scattered around the scene.
Would you care to hazard a guess at what happened?

Hi, Dieselholic92.
Dunno whether it'z true pr not but I have heard that there were companies and jobs in the past where if a machine went down like that and it wasn't a Cat, they would just bury it and work over the top of it, especially if'n it wuz painted red.
Hi, rax200.
I don't remember seeing anything on the exhaust when it came back out. Jeez, but it'z hard to get good operators these days, ain't it?
