Hi-output D8??? was created by Deas Plant.
Hi, Folks.
I am a little curious now about a reply to a comment of mine on an NZ Contractor magazine post on You Tube entitled,Classic Machines: Birth of a legend - the Cat D8

Have I got it wrong about the Hi-output D8s being a Sheperd modification?

This kew -ree-yuss mind would like to know.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas-

You might consider contacting OzDozer and OilSlick as OD saw an ebay (?) adv for one, posted it on ACME, OS bought and resurrected it with a 100 page rhread on the old ACME site.

Come on Deas crank the brain over a few more times. Asking here we could really get you confused on which end is up.

I my only marginally working memory has something of this question from back in the day of OilSlicks rebuild of a High out Put D8. Was it Sheperd in Southern Calif, or Peterson in northern Calif or the dealer in Denver Col was the first to crank more power out of the 2u D8. My memory what's to say the Denver outfit was first or maybe just did more of them, or their way was chosen by Cat to make some at the factory. But all real fuzzy, after trying to compare prices to get the yearly propane fill for the coming winter, because I hate being cold.

Hi-Output D8 and McCoy Specials are two different machines, Hi-output just had higher rpm and fuel settings were increased where the McCoys had a Supercharged D337 engine with a Twin Disc convertor.

Hi, Folks.
The point that I am unsure on is this - did Cat themselves ever make a Hi-output D8 and, if so, was it the Sheperd version or a different beast?

NZ Contractor magazine in his reply to me seemed to think that they were two separate beasts.

Hi, bruce oz.
Maybe this is the beginning of craft disease but I honestly can not remember. I am pretty sure that Sheperd's simply called their upgrade "Hi-output D8". I had forgotten that Cat themselves are supposed to have brought out a version of it and have no recollection of what it might have been called.

Thankfully, I have no such doubts about the McCoy Special version.
