For what it's worth, I've been trying to add my location in my profile, no luck. Computers and me don't get along real well.

Hi, unstyled..
If you are willing to give you approximate geographical location here on the board, i.e.. North-east U.S., South=west U.S., even that would help people here to recommend paces where you might find the parts you need.

Freight across a country like America can get a bit 'exxy' for parts like spring leaves.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

see if there is a company near you that makes springs. leaf springs are quite simple things to make the art is in choose the right grade of spring steel and then tempering that steel after forming so it works as it should.

Hi, unstyled..
trainzkid88 hazza point there and I think 'forming' the spring would not be an issue 'coz I think most of the Cat equalizer springs were flat at rest.

ive helped "reset" spring leaves in a fly hammer heat em up a bit on a gas ring burner then under the fly hammer while still warm. when i worked for a old engineering shop. the owner was a cantankerous old bastard, but he knew his stuff about working metal.
used to fire his furnace on old sump oil it would smoke the whole place out when they were lighting it. old George made his slasher blades from hardened and tempered spring steel I often cut the steel blanks. cutter bars for slashers were 3/4 by 4 inch spring steel bar. it drills very nicely.

Sorry for the slow response, life is hectic sometimes. My location is West Central Illinois, about 90 miles west of Peoria, Il. where most of these machines were manufactured. Thanks again for the helpful tip. Alan.

Hi, unstyled..
These people in, I think, 'Noo Yoik', might be worth a try:

www.conequip.com/parts/parts-by-component

Or this mob:

www.kuglersalvage.com/

Failing that being any use, you could look on either Machinerytrader.com - www.machinerytrader.com/listings/dismant...nstruction-equipment

or Equipmenttrader.com - www.equipmenttrader.com/ - for machinery dismantlers.

There is an outfit in Fresno, CA., trading under the name, Fresno Tractors, who seem to have a LOTTTTA machines either dismantled or being dismantled:

www.fresnotractor.com/Home.html - but they are a fair hike from your neck of the woods.

Hope this helps.

Did you find a spring? I have the spring out of an 8U D6. Narrow track just like the 5R I am located in Central Missouri just outside of Fort Leonard Wood, about 3 or 4 hours from you. I can measure the spring to see if it is the same if you are interested. If it will fit you can have the spring if you will come and get it. I suspect it would be cheaper to make a road trip and come get the spring than to ship it with freight as expensive as it is now. let me know. Brian Boaz.

The spring is 63 3/4 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick, as near as I can measure. There are 5 leaves in the entire assembly. I can take it our of the frame to make sure there are no broke leaves in he entire set. Let me know if you are interested. 573 433 9277 Brian Boaz

Brian, That is awesome of you to offer it for free. You are correct in my opinion too, shipping, etc. would cost more than the road trip. I'll need to measure the spring to verify the measurements. I'll get to it as soon as possible, I have a lot of things going on everyday this week - a dentist and dermatologist appointment, giving blood, etc. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. THANKS!
