Buff brown?

Buff brown? was created by Deebo
So I just attended a working event in Scotland which has lead to a query? In all the arguments about Caterpillar yellow, I’ve never heard of buff brown? There was an ex Caterpillar fitter there who said that several D2s he’d worked on had come from the factory in “Buff Brown”. There was one at the show;

Anyone come across that colour or was it a UK only thing?

Regards,

Tony

maybe only a uk thing or it was a custom order where the cusomer requested a particulary colour like military equipment being battleship grey or army green.

Hi, Deebo.
To the best of my knowledge, you could have any color you wanted - - - so long as it was Cat yellow - - - with the option of other colors IF you wanted to dig deeper into your pocket - or your overdraft - to pay for it as it meant fairly major changes in the paint section to do any other color.

Justt my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

"Buff Brown" might have been a standard color for other manufacturers too. I have an old IHC model H that is also buff brown colored. :)

You certain the paint isn't just faded and the rust washed it to that color. I see other parts of the tractor are Hiway Yellow.

It looks like faded paint to me also, I have seen d2s with the faded brownish color before typically on the exterior parts

Definitely a different color, the yellow parts are later additions, the cab, the spring guard and the breather in that pic. Spoke to an 85 year old ex Caterpillar fitter who remembers them as Buff Brown, he said they came from the factory like that but I’m not sure, there was a hint of olive drab underneath in some spots so maybe it was a dealer that painted them. If so it was a great job as they looked factory.

I think they came to the uk like that for a period during the war, a boat load of bright yellow Cats would have stuck out like a sore thumb! I have an R2 that is brown or green ( I’m colour blind!) and I have seen other cats painted like that
