Gentlemen: I'm looking for the proper paint code for my '64 D4D. I was advised to ask for " Old Yellow/Old Caterpillar Yellow" and finally "C106A". The sales people couldn't find it. Also, if someone out there has the correct code for my tractor, would a gallon be sufficient for my project? And finally, since I'm not going to do a showpiece, I was thinking that a single-stage paint would suffice. Thanks for any info that you can provide me.   

rustoleum have old cat yellow as a stock colour in thier equipment enamel range. the colour is also know as DOT highway yellow it was used to paint most american school buses and for all there road construction equipment. bareco have a colour called agricultural yellow which is similar most tractor parts places stock bareco parts and can order it for you.

there is know need to use 2 pack paint, plain old alkyd enamels work just fine. 2 pack is more durable and chemical resistant it still chips and fades just like enamels do. ordinary enamel paint is easier,safer and cheaper to use. save your money for the things that matter like get it mechanically right. paint is just beautification.

I can not recollect when leaded paint went out, that date is the critical one that will determine what colour paint you use if you wish to remain original. The leaded paint is known as 'highway yellow' and the later unleaded paint is known as 'old cat yellow'. The first is a bright yellow and the latter is more of a slight orange tinge.

yes it has a bit more orange too it. most industrial enamels still have a little lead in them. particularly red and yellow based colours.

After checking a few automotive paint stores with negative results, I think I'm going to go with the Rustoleum recommendation. The "Caterpillar Yellow" offerings that I looked at are too dark suggesting a later era shade. I've seen some repaints that are way too bright or too dark and the Rustoleum seems to be just about as close to what I'm looking for. Thanks to all for your input.
