I've made the commitment to add direct electric start to my 1951 D4 7U. Pony is very tired, needs main bearings. I'm doing a 12 volt conversion, as this will be parked inside. I called a nearby Romaine location, they have the parts, but he wanted a part number for the Delco Remy 42mt, as there are many variants. I hadn't considered that, but it makes sense. Does anyone know which part/model number to use? Also. I want to add a hand priming pump. I've seen those before, but can't find one anywhere on the internet for the early models.
Thank, Ron

Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Ron, I enjoy old tractors, trucks , cars, and more. I've built many interesting creations. I always wanted and needed a crawler/dozer, so a D4 was a natural choice. Since my last post, I found a good elect shop to make me a starter. Now I need a template to drill the holes. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ron

Hello Ropot, I believe some have cast marking of roughly where the starter was going to go at some stage of manufacture of housings, im sure if you have a dig in the search section of the site there has been a few fitted with some pictures along the way, the part numbers etc I can't help with as I have pony on both of my machines, hopefully someone with better skills can add a link for you to check out placement etc, a template could be made from starter nose measurements. Hope all works well for you on the conversion

Welcome to the forum Ron: I want to chuckle and say your introduction sounds familiar to many of us that have an affliction for collecting old things! Some folks have managed by "cheating" and using the starter gasket as a template...
A pretty intelligent fellow (and member) named "Old Magnet" has provided the schematics with precise measurements in past. If you are lucky, he might see your post and offer assistance as well. JM

To update. Starter finally completed and operating today. WOW! It really turns. So I will consider this thread done. Now comes the new thread. This D4 still has no fuel pressure.
