Yes great attention to detail!! Thats exactly why I knew this was the place to post questions. It is a 1906 for sure I verified that the other night. Well after making 100% the gear timing was spot on by using a paint pen and marking the "C's" and very hard to see "M's" and checking with a borescope I mounted the mag with the rotor lined up and tried it today and NOTHING not even a pop! After sitting for a while and questioning the meaning of life a bit I decided to pull the mag and turn it 180 degrees just to be sure. Hit the electric start and bam she took right off and ran what I believed to be almost perfect! This pony motor hasn't run for guessing better part of at least 40 years. (Being locked up for probably 30 of that). She cracks and pops a bit when not under a load but once the big motor is pulling it down it sound great. I know it brought a smile to my face as well as my dad standing there helping. He said it sounded smoother than anyone he could remember being around and he grew up running these old cats. The big motor popped off right away just like it should. We shut it down after it built a little heat up and tried it again just for fun and the little motor popped right off again. Will be nice being able to start it on its own instead of having to fire up our old D6 9U to try to tug it around all the time. Thanks for the help, guys! Sure enjoy aggravating myself with these old Cats! I guess on to the next project sitting in the shed a D2 with a stuck hydraulic valve and a non-running pony as well.
