main pressure hose for 977H

More

My main pressure hose 4k11213 (filter to valve ) split.  CAT dealer says the ends are no longer available. The parts book shows 2 bolt flanges, vs the standard split 4 bolt.

Any Ideas?

thanks
robert

I had the same problem with the hoses on the 944. What I dd was cut the end of the hose and brazed a JIC fitting onto the flange where the hose was and fitted a JIC hose to it. That should work on the 977 provided there is enough room.

the SAE code 61 and 62 ends are still used any hydraulics joint can get them for you. note there crimp on rather than the field replaceable. cat has the crimp type ends.
just use the bolt plates off the old fitting, that's what our hydraulics joint did for us. the original SAE standard used 2 bolt flanges they added 4 bolt later on.

note they may need a spacer ring as the later genuine cat hose ends are slightly thicker than the SAE standard calls for.

ye i have done as phil suggested for the modification to the main hydraulic tubes on our d4 so i could replace the hoses my self if required jic being more common on modern gear is cheaper to buy.and a greater range of option exist.

hydraulics fittings and hose are measured in dash size one dash is a 16th of a inch.
just take the old hose in and ask them to copy it.

Be careful doing this. You need to make sure the crimped shell is smaller than the bore of the flange. You definitely won't be able to fit the flange over the un-crimped shell so you will need to put it on the hose before crimping and then slide it over the crimped shell. The hydraulic shop should be able to advise you if this is a suitable option.

yes the flange (plus spacer ring if required) has to be slid over the tail first then the crimp collar and hose are fitted before finally crimping the assembly.

i watched a video on youtube where a bloke with the moniker "salvage workshop" got a old cat 955 track loader working again and it had burst one of the big hoses on the transmission.
the fittings it had were field replaceable you wound the outer collar off and then unscrewed the fitting from the hose, he had "fun" but he did get it apart and a new bit of hose fitted
from memory it was a inch and a half hose cant remember exactly but it was large. he called her "old red" well part of it had been painted red at some point in its life.

Your talking about two piece crimp hoses. Way overkill for this application with a burst of around 6000psi but I guess if it can be made to fit it will work.

They are called "Field attachable couplings" at least by Ryco. That was in chapter 11 and it was only the suction hose from the tank to the pump. He did not use field attachable inserts he simply cut the shells off the old hose fitted a new hose and put heavy duty hose clamps around it.

I didn't watch all the videos but two things about his methods, in chapter 8 he shows what can happen when the wrong equipment and knowledge are used to remove a sprocket. Luckily no one was hurt especially the guy heating it with the oxy torch.
I hate it when people bash spanners with a 4lb hammer to undo bolts (unless they are flogging spanners).

yes he is a bit rough if some of his other vids are to go by. i dont like smacking spanners with a hammer either. if its that bloody tight or seized get a decent breaker bar or a length of pipe and get some leverage if you have got a decent impact gun or slogging spanners. if you really have to use a wood mallet or a dead blow hammer and get a proper hit. and use a decent penertrant oil. wd40 aint it.

I fixed it. Here is what I finally did.
First off I struck out with local hydraulic shops and the CAT dealer.
Also the flange diameters and o-rings are close to the CAT and SAE but slightly different dimensions (2.25 outer vs 2.375 I think).
My solution:
I got the 2.5" hose with 24 size JIC Female swivel fittings. $50 dollars a foot x 4' plus 100 for each fitting... $400 hose
I then ordered two adapters: 1-1/2" JIC Male x 1-1/2" Code 62 Flanges $140
I cut the flanges off the old hose and they cleared the JIC Male threads.
I chucked the adapters up in the lathe and turned the SAE 62 Flanges to match my CAT flanges so I could use the parts old retaining flanges.
I lucked out and everything cleared and fit in the CAT. It did take more than a little bit of effort with lots of ratchet straps and multiple attempts to get it installed with a S bend in that hose. It would of worked a lot easier with a couple less inches of hose.\
