Those high torque - slow speed engines --- PLAIN COUNTRY MUSIC - at night you could see the red manifolds and blue fire from the stack.
Sixty , Seventy Five, Thirty all have sounds of their own. Then came the Early Diesels - Thirty Five - Forty, Fifty, etc that made music of their own too.
I operated a Sno-Go that had a Climax K gasoline engine - goverened rpm, no load was 1100 but put a load on it and it would BARK!
So many engines of different manufacture, and most were identifyable by the sound they produced. (only if one payed attention)
