Interesting comment about being hard to start with low fuel pressure. My 5U is not the greatest start and the fuel pressure is low. I might need to mess with the pump this summer to see what's going on. Tractor does always start and seems to run fine but it would be good at least to see the gauge reading higher

Neil Like your 5U this grader does always start and seems to run fine but it has always been embedded in my thinking that the low fuel pressure has an effect on the starting and running of the machine. I think i have read somewhere on this Forum of someone a lot smarter than me that has made that comment. I have a D6 that when the pony motor first starts turning the main engine the fuel pressure gauge is peg in the green and it seems to do a much better job at starting the motor. Gauges are indicators of the condition of the things they monitor and low or insufficient readings are a direct reflection of that condition. Just a thought Brian Boaz

All good points Brian, I'll put the bleeder cap on the fuel tank in summer and pressurize it and see how easily it starts with some extra fuel pressure

Hi Brian, glad you got the pump ok. That one had the brass drive gear, I would change it to a steel one if you have it. I've been reading your post but can't remember if it's been discussed but the spring and/or seat in the pressure valve can bleed pressure off. They're both pretty susceptible to rust.

I have a new spring and valve to use with the pump you sent. Maybe that will take that factor out of the picture. Have had other issues to deal with and haven't had a chance to install the pump yet; your pump seems a lot tighter than the one on the machine now. Let you know once it is installed how it works out.
Neil That's an interesting concept to check out extra fuel pressure. Might be a good way to diagnose a weak pump. bboaz
