Deas, I am truly disappointed, because due to the flooding, they are low on hip wader inventory, and might need a good pair for some of the good old fashioned BS at TD's.
I think I found a tub of Vegemite for you on Saturday, I know you miss staples from home. Hahaha. JM

Show is an event - purely something that is not life or death matter.
Let us not lose sight of the impacts the recent events have had on the multitudes impacted by the wates, levee failures , etc.

Fires, floods, earthquakes, etc take no mercy, they are all consuming.

We Californians have been subject to drought so long we forgot what it's like to contend with the opposite problem. It's hard to imagine the San Joaquin Valley used to be marshland until farmers tamed the water and made the valley one of the most productive ag regions in the world. But sometimes, nature reverts to her true self. Best made plans, and all that...

The blessing is that our lakes and reservoirs are full, and hopefully our ground water is starting to recharge. We have to take the bad with the good.

Sheddcanyon -
You are very correct - soon our memories are in the distant past, feast and famine - drought & floods. The San Joaquin exerienced another issue. largely forgotten too, drainage.
Many examples of the problems associated with irrigation and water diversions, and not all of them agricultural but they none-the-less are prominent environmental issues.
Always in the news - Mono Lake, Owens Lake (valley), Salton Sea, the latter formed by a levee break and now receeding at record rates and levels.

California is a very diverse state, blessed with some of the finest soils and agriculture diversity anywhere. The one thing that is a common factor - WATER!

Deep wells, excessve demands, cause ground water tables to drop as demand outruns the supply, then follows with collapse of the aquifer, when it collapses, that storage is lost.
It has been printed, some areas in the San Joaquin have experienced drops of 26 feet in surveyed ground elevations.
This is also being experienced in the Sacramento Valley, particularly on the I-5 corridor.

Our issues are multi-faceted, demand is out running supply and not just in California.

For those that are interested, some infromation from CDEC - they maintain a huge amount of information, more than is reasonable to try to post here.
cdec.water.ca.gov/resapp/RescondMain
cdec.water.ca.gov/reportapp/javareports?name=RES

The operations of the many reservoirs are often at opposition to the demands - Flood Control, Recreation, municipal and agricultural supply. A balancing act at best.

Local city government here just sold off 4500 ac ft of water for $$$, saying allocation is plenty here; meanwhile, farmers have no idea what they are allocated besides the 35% from earlier announcement. Playing games for profit. Answer was we are ignorant of the procedures. Oh by the way, do not waste water, and keep rationing...
Worst part, many forced to pay full assessment for water not received, excuse then becomes we did not get full amount from state...but sell off for $$$ anyways. Ugh. JM

Dumb farmer don't count to the progressive news media. So they say nothing. I knew they where dumping water in to save a number of towns but did not know it was this big. I am less than 2 hours drive away. Use to go there for parts several times a year. Thanks for hunting those down Rome.

Oh the days of going to Frank's Equipment in Tulare and the old Meyers-Ward on Elm in Fresno.
