Jeez CTS, I wonder who that was!
The novelty of rope starting wears thin. Remember, I am superstitious, I only use the original rope that came with each tractor! JM
You must have a lot you never started since it came off the lowboy. Generally the old ropes just fray away until I get a new one. I am to old and brittle to fall off the track like in the good old days. So I replace before breaking.
But as I observed each engine has a personality of its own. Get the choke just right, or choke 3 pulls and then no choke. It will start ever time until, someone is watching. Even more so if you wanted to load it on a truck and move it.
For CTS John Deere was the other big user of a pony to start a diesel. I think it was a option on all the 2 cylinder diesels.

***You are right about stage fright. I swear as soon as I have spectators, the machine wants to fight me. I had a cold blooded main engine once, and a bystander BEGGED (okay, "offered") to spray starting fluid for me, which I politely declined; out of nowhere, he whips out 2 of the tallest cans of glow plug in a can, as if he had them holstered to his suspenders. Lordy, if I was in a old western gunfight, I would have been shot dead instantly with both cans. He was quick!***JM

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
