I feel the club is making a big mistake by doing this. The club will be losing many members because there are many members that are not online. Just my opinion.

for those that cant do a online renewal there is nothing stopping them from doing a direct deposit from their bank account into the clubs account.
the club would need to make those details available though.

though personal cheques are being phased out money orders and bank cheques will still exist so no reason they can be used and a renewal form be mailed to the club secretary.

we have a system in australia called payID which allows the transfer of payments using mobile phone numbers or email addresses the sender has to be registered for payID with their banking provider and if the recipient isnt registered a secure link is sent for them to register. this system is operated by Bpay a company started by the 4 major Australian banks.

bassically the times are changing everyone needs to get with the times and deal with it. yes i understand not every one has a reliable internet connection.

This makes me sad and angry!! This being a club with a lot of older members with a good percentage of members that don’t have internet or are not electronically savvy as I am. luckily for me I have a electronically savvy wife. If this Club is in that bad of shape they can’t take a personal check we have COME TO A SAD Point. The members of this club are GOOD People that I can’t see any of them giving you a bad check so what’s the deal is now too much trouble too deposit a few checks in the Bank!! I have been a member since 1991 or 92 when it was an Oregon club I NEVER thought it would get to this Point!!! 17afarmer

Like someone mentioned above a little context would help.  What brought this up?  Just wondering.  The BOD is cognizant that many folks do not utilize the online information and have to get it elsewhere.  If online users can simplify their renewals they by all means should do so.  This might be much ado about nothing.

Wally: I called and left you a VM on your cell phone if you wish to speak directly.
I do not know what you are referencing; yes, please be more specific...
As far as memberships go, an individual is still able to join up via the snail mail system and a good form of payment, i.e., personal check, bank check or money order. Sending cash is NOT recommended. Please note the new mailing address for such is: 1115 Madison St., NE #1117, Salem, OR 97301 USA.
The electronic method is preferred and much faster, but some like mailing payments still.
Hope this helps. JM

personal cheques are on borrowed time. well they certainly are in australia. a lot of people dont use them any more. the banks also are charging higher fees for cheques due to it costs more to process them.
electronic funds transfer is more secure and its quicker.

i live in a regional centre and we should have a good internet service but sometimes its rather spotty. so it can be a pain when its not working properly. infrastructure dating back to the 1950/60s gotta love it havent ya. slowly the government is getting it replaced. with a system they are now upgrading again because it was out dated when they put it in.

I'll hop in here too :) - I think some background is in order.

It is true that we would like to go to 100% online renewal, just like so many other things in our daily life. There are some clarifications needed though:

1) When renewing, choose the "auto renew" option, that way you will not have to think about going online, sending a check, etc. again. If easy is the goal, this scores solidly.
2) All of us have someone in our lives that can assist. A Child, grandchild, friend, chapter leader, fellow member, etc. - don't be afraid to ask, and then choose "auto renew" and you're all done and will be assured of no interruptions.
3) As JM so kindly pointed out, you can for the time being send a check to the Oregon address just like always.

I'd ask you to think about this topic from a different point of view. Having a person available to accept calls and process renewals, among other duties has been costing the club an equivalent of 3/4 of the dues collected from all members. Obviously, that is a significant portion of the club's revenue each year. That does not take into account the workload accepted by our Treasurer on a purely volunteer basis. Option 1 & 2 above are not big asks on an individual level, it isn't hard to get a renewal processed online, and if we all select auto renew, it eliminates us from having to ever do the task again while saving even more time and dollars for the club.

By implementing new software, we are working to make joining and renewing online even easier than it is now. If you know another member that does not go online, offer to help them with their renewal, better yet, help them get online, in my view this forum and the online library are great benefits of the club and interesting reading. I think that members that are not online with the rest of us are. missing out on some things that they would really enjoy.

I'd ask that you look at online renewal as a way to help the club as a whole and that auto renew can make things easier for everyone.
