My serial # listing doesn't go far enough to include the 47J.
Would someone please advise source plant for a 47J. ??

According to the doc Caterpillar Serial Number Index SEBF9451-32 July 2006 a 47J was built in the UK in 1968.

I typically refer to these two s/n books but like all of them be on the look out for errors.
700 pages in one, about 275 pages in the other.

Excellent, thanks OM, some more publications to add to my ebay searches.. A quick web search shows there’s an online version of the ToughQuip guide, probably not as detailed as in the book but might be useful. Serial numbers can be entered and then if you click on the line it looks like there’s an excerpt from the book shown. Here’s a link;
