I have a 1950 D6 9U that is stuck in third gear. I can make it go into forward and reverse but I cannot get it out of third. I can move the gear level back into N but it dosent come out of gear and it wont move side to side. It feels like it is hung. Does anyone have any ideas what i need to do to fix the issue. Im at a loss of how to free it up.

Hi, jsully50.
I'm no 'ex-spurt' but I think you're gonna hafta get into the top of the transmission.I suspect that the shifter may have jumped a slot in the forks.

I'm mostly replying here to get your post back up near the top where others are more likely to notice it.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thank you sir. I took apart the left side where the clutch level attaches to the transmission and ground one of the 4 plungers was broke. I stuck my hand inside and couldn’t feel anything out. I was able to momentarily get it to be able to shift through all the gear and then it got hung in third again and I couldn’t get it to come back out. I’m afraid I’m going to have to pull the whole transmission to be able to fix it.

With a broken plunger one of the shift forks may be out of position. Get everything in neutral and check the interlock adjustment. Not likely the problem is beyond the shift mechanism though anything is possible.

Thank you sir very much. The number 5 and 6 in the picture above is stuck in the center and won’t move. When I try to move one or the other they Both try to move but won’t.

Old Magnet would you happen to know where I could get a new plunger? I have been looking on the internet and cannot find one anywhere.
