Just got my D2 back together, steering clutches both sides, was able to use drums and salvage everything else.  Those discs were sure stuck, would have never got them loose without    disassembly.  I was lucky to have some experienced old school cat mechanics for help and watched a lot of Squatch.  Got pony carb all leaned up so it starts and runs great.  Took it out of the shop and seems to operate as it should.  Here's a few pics

Excellent! Were you able to avoid buying any new parts (other than gaskets)? That's an inexpensive job : )

Cheers,

Cleaned up surfaces and John Deere gasket maker, didn't even buy gaskets. Most difficult part was prying final away from main case, clutch splines were so rusty and corroded, took some time but patience is everything.
