Hi all, my buddy and I looked at this D6B today. Fellow said he couldn't start it after it sat outside for a couple of months 4 years ago. Tractor had just come back from getting the cylinder head done, new crank, some other stuff. Said the crankcase was full of water, not coolant, and then after a while coolant. He drained all that out and filled it back up with fresh engine oil. Thinks one of the liner seals or one of the cylinder head director seals moved. What engine does this have (naturally aspirated), hp, and parts availability? At the rear of the cylinder head is a lever that looks like a decompression lever. Is it so, and if so, is it likely to work or did Cat not put all the parts in if it wasn't a pony start?

Units 44A9686 to 11606 had the decompression lever/system in the head even though standard was direct electric start.
Engine is the D333A (4-1/2" bore). Parts are still around but getting scarce.

Many thanks gents, we wanted to see whether we could crank the engine over without fear of hydraulicing it, and it sounds like we can with that serial #, assuming the head matches the serial #. Since the cylinder head has the lever on it, I think we will give it a shot.

***interesting tidbit; I will have to look at mine with serial # 44A10,111 and look/see if it too has the decompression set up. I have never been around it enough to notice. A former BPetty machine from WA state.*** Thanks, JM

It's a two inch lever right on the rear of the head, in front of the hydraulic tank, can't miss it if it's there. You can make out the top of it in the photo just below that cross-over hydraulic tube
