D4 7U Brake band install advice needed

Hello everyone -
My D4 (7U4004) badly needs brake bands, so i got new bands from General Gear and got the old ones out. (old bands missing most of the lining). The trick is apparently getting the new bands back in.... I have the adjuster bolt at the bottom all the way out, i've tried putting the front band in from both the front and rear of the clutch drum, tried putting together the front and bottom band first to no avail. The problem appears to be the small bolts (4) are hanging up on part of the casting below the drum.

There's a clearly a trick and/or best method of doing this successfully. Can anyone offer some advice as to the best way to do this?

Note: D4 has winch, it's currently on but seems like i have plenty of room in the back. Trans cover is off.
Pictures attached for your viewing enjoyment.

Greatly appreciate your help!!
-Todd

There is a bolt underneath the clutch case on each side right under the drums, you may have to back them out, they keep the bands at the correct distance on the drum. The bands may be catching on them.

Could you slide a strip of 1/16 panel steel as wide as the brake band around first, so that it provides a smooth surface for the bolts to slide over instead of getting hung up? Make it plenty long so you're not fighting it

Pretty sure you have to install them in two pieces. Unbolt the top section where the adjusting bolt goes, then slide the lower two sections in as one piece, and then bolt the top part back on

I ended up doing that, but still hanging up on the 4 bolts. I think i need to compare the bolt length between the new & old bands if there's a length difference, grind it off. There's very little room between the casting 'ledge' and the bolts.....

this is actually a really good idea.... maybe between this and grinding off any extra bolt length will get them to slide past that casting ledge.... thank you!!
