Ten magneto was created by D6Joe
I purchased a Ten cat two month ago on a neighbors estate sale.  I tried to buy it 15 years ago from another neighbor, but it didn’t happen.  This Ten has been within 2 & 1/2 mile of my place for the last 65 years. I has been inside, but has not run in 35 to 40 years.  But it had the yellow paint overhaul way back when.

I have a list of about 2 dozen things to work on. But getting it started this winter is #1.  I need to know if it hold water in the radiator, gas in the tank, etc.

The previous owner had the magneto off, and using my new owners book, I found the timing marks on the front pulley and the block. The mag was 1 revolution off.  After filling the points, I have some spark at the points in the mag, but none at the spark plugs. Weak condenser???  The magneto is an “American” from the tag on it.  What are the point for this mag supposed to be set at? 0.020?   The book says 0.012 for the original mag.

That should be an American Bosch MJA4C106 magneto (Cat #4F7494) Point gap is 0.014 - 0.018.
With the magneto dormant that long you will probably need to have the coil remagnatized.

here some tips.
clean the mating faces to bare metal then clean with methylated spirit or shellite(white gas / stove fuel) or contact cleaner. warning dont spray inside the mag casing any residue in there can cuase a explosion.
now its spotless take a no2b graphite pencil and rub the mating faces to give a even coating of graphite it must only be on the mating faces any where else clean off with rag dampened metho etc.
check the plug wires for crazing same with the dissy cover cracks leak power. replace leads if cracked. caps can be repaired if not severe.
clean the cap and the rotor button.
change the condensor

clean the plug mating faces too. can be a good idea to fit new plugs just cuase it works nice out the cyl it might not work under compression.
check any kill switch and its wiring for proper operation and any short circuits, cracked insulation etc

remember magnetos rely on the return path via the plug bases, engine block and the magneto case to work.
see if this improves the spark.

if not then the mag  might need rebuilding. if it runs okay leave it alone. mag rebuilds are not cheap.

Sounds like a good idea to clean up the mountings.
