I would like to know the part number for a pony motor starter on a Cat D7 3T dozer. And where to buy one, Checked with Florin and they did not have one. Sad to hear they are in the process of shutting down.

The complete motor is 6B9157, is the one pictured yours ? if so rebuilding might be an option, also the motor and bendix assembly, not including the nose cone (9B8857), were used on many different Caterpillar units and other brands, John Deere etc. so one option is to put your nose cone on the motor from another application that might be more available.

yes. go to a autolectrician that does heavy equipment they should be able to help you. a google search of the part number looking for the national stock number (nsn) can help find what other machines used that part and what brands made it or eqivilant parts

Yes it is mine. I was hoping that I could buy another starter to have as a spare. From what I have gleaned it is a 6 volt starter that uses a set bolt to anchor it. That is how mine is attached. Counterclockwise rotation.

The only real difference between the starters for the D7, D2-4, and others is where the nose cone is clocked on the motor, could be pretty easily modified by a machinist.

I took my starter to a local shop that rebuilds starters and they were able to rebuild it with no problems.
