Thinking about changing transmission oil but it was so clear will probably just top off to full. I noticed the stick largely was great shape but for one small area near the top. Thinking it should be easy enough to weld a two inch or so piece to reinforce?

Welding a strip or even brazing a strip will do the job. The photo looks like it is suffering from corrosion on that spot so what caused that?
Make sure whatever you do that it doesn't change the length of the dipstick.

yes you could solder a piece of copper sheet or steel shim stock over that area. make it like a taco pre tin the area and the sleeve crimp firmly with pliers and solder in place.
use ezi-weld 801 flux its a very strong zinc chloride based flux this stuff will allow you to solder stainless steel and monel which are difficult to do. general use you dilute at 4:1.

Thanks all for replying so appreciative for you all. I think will try the solder weld it myself. Glad to see Cat has these, It’d be nice if there was available from them online their inventory according to the circa part #’s from manual’s they provided for the old Cats.
