Dont know how much steam he was running but if that boom would have gone a little bit farther into the locomotive, could have been a BOOM!!

From an ex railroader's point of view. If he was still in yard limits he should have been running at restricted speed ie stop short of anything.
In this case a switch not properly lined. Wonder if his job insurance is paying off ?

I think he failed to look at the switch target, you can see it in the beginning of the video.

A RR friend of mine said the damage was what he called minimal as it only damaged the smoke box in front of the boiler. Looks like it could have been a whole lot worse.
The main track is the track to the left in the video and the ex was on a siding. Still wonder why the engineer missed the switch signal.

That’s a bad deal. Should’ve had a derail or track disabled for protection. At the least have the switch locked out against train moves. That mini has a hirail set up and easily able to set off with oncoming moves. Glad no one was killed-hopefully not injured.

Keep safe-

Yikes I hate it when that happens.
Is this a private track, cause from the few railroad jobs I worked on there where so many rules it seems like a lot of stars would have to line up for that to happen
