I haven't run my pony for about a year on my D8 1H.  been trying to get it back to working again after pulling the head installing a new head gasket, etc on the pony. Everything hooked up electric starter works but now no spark at all. Last time it ran I had a very strong spark after getting help from Lawson Enterprises to go through the mag. I pulled the mag and cleaned the cap completely and cleaned the points. I don't see any obvious signs of corrosion. I would like to figure out if the coil went bad but I have searched the forum and online and can't find where it can be tested with something like an ohmmeter. Any ideas on how to find out if the coil is still good, or thought on why it has no spark after just sitting for a year?

Yes you can test the primary/secondary coil sides, don't remember the exact values but primary should be 0-2 Ohms, secondary 5-10kOhms.

there is a mob in the UK that does mag rebuilds for a fee they will rebuild your mag with a new coil and send it back to you. thier coils are properly vacuum impregnated is the insulating lacquer is forced into the very core of the windings and not just coated on the outside this gives utmost reliability and moisture protection. just dipping them in laquer doesnt work as well.

a tip with mags is all mating surfaces must be spotless almost clean enough to eat off it. a rub with 2B graphite pencil helps the current path. plug threads are the same must be clean and rust free. the insulators must be clean and free from cracks.

the magnets can loose thier magnetism and some times need re magnetising
change the condensor if it has one.

heat affects them too a bad mag may test fine cold but once warm it wont work test whn cold and when warm.

Branson is mostly out of business. He is still selling some things on ebay, but not much else. I would not use them for rebuilds anyway as I do not like the work I have seen them do. There are several makes of coil tester. Eisemann made a couple of different models. Their version was a small motor operated set of points with the rest of the circuit set up like a points ignition system on a car with an amp meter in the circuit, 6 volt. The secondary is ran to a 5 mm point gap and values are given for how many amps it will take different coils to jump that gap. I hope someone is able to understand that.

I work last week on EISEMANN magneto and check the coil with my finger and no shok and I removed the wires from the condenser and recheck the coil and he was fine and trouble was wire touch metal housing and after reinstaled correctly he had god spark.

Found a spec for H28-030 or H23-295 or H22-920 (also called 28030 and 23295 and 22920) coils used in Eisemann RC-2H magneto, max primary 2.0 Ohms, max secondary 8500 Ohms
