D4 7U Part was created by Hank
Hi all,

It has been a long time since I have been on this site, but I need to know what I need so I can replace the part. I looked in the part manuals for the D4 7U but did not see the part I need in the manual.  My D4 is a 7U that was built around October of 1955, the same month and year I came off the line too. The enclosed picture shows the broken part. I do not know what the name of the part is, if you know please tell me. If you have a replacement part like the one I need, I would be more then happy to purchase it. Thank you.

Hank

I think they refer to it as an auxiliary control lever and was an added accessory on most models. There was a handle or knob where the threads were broken off and one could weld or braze a treated rod to the end and fix it. They are sometimes hard to find. Just an extra handy handle to control the injection pump/throttle.

PS:  Go the wanted and for sale forum and ask for the Governor auxiliary control lever.  That is how I found one for my D4.

Looks to me like there is enough of the lever left, that you could just cut some more threads and put on a new knob.

I think Josh has a great idea to cut some more threads and get a knob. You might have to grind a little off to keep the proper OD on the threads but it looks like it wouldn't be much. Good luck.

I have done as others mentioned. Use a die and thread enough to add the knob;welded a "leg" from a discarded lever/control; cut off the head of a NF bolt and welded on as well.
Yes, because they are a pain to source at times, so you do what works at the time! JM

i dont know about that knob, but the handles as used on the clutches are still available via the dealer. i would go to the local industrial supply or auto parts joint and get a generic knob and a bit of all thread to suit and weld it to the governor lever.
