Well Done! That is a cool project and I look forward to updates on your progress. I think that's more of a "Falling sunlight protection" than anything else, and I say: It's your tractor, do as you see fit.

Thanks for posting.

Glad you found one close. Hope to see it at the show next spring.
We may be able to help you with the leaking cylinder.

the ram seals may be available from the cat dealers (if they are cat rams). if the shafts are damaged it gets more expensive, when we redid ours its was cheaper to reshaft than rechrome it cost only $150 bucks more to do both rams and make new bushes for the ram eyes than the cost to just rechrome one shaft. we had both done for around $850aud. any good hydraulics joint should be able to help with seals too.

as for a fuel additive becuase this old girl was made for lead fuel enquire at your autoparts joint about a product called flash-lube valve saver fluid. its a australian made upper cylinder lube and is very economical to use as it is added at 1ml to the litre of unleaded fuel so 1 litre bottle will treat 1000 litres of fuel. available in 50ml, 1lt and 5lt sizes. its also very good for vehicles running lpg or cng preventing valves seat recession.

from a safety note if your going to work clearing scrub with the machine dont remove the canopy another side benefit is permanent shade.

you said there was a gear mounted on the pto shaft maybe there was intention to drive a chain driven winch which is what our d4 has. as ours was a farm crawler originally before it was converted. being a ag crawler it may have been used to drive a drawn implement like a seeder or fertiliser spreader etc. maybe even a grain auger.

actually all cat crawlers of the early years where made as crawlers and either dealer or factory fitted with dozer, loader, pipelayer attachments. eventually cat made there own attachments laplant-choate and letournue were common brands.

I did find a Laplant-Choate tag on my dozer blade's right tower.

Yesterday my operator manual and part's book arrived. There is one portion of a page missing from the operator manual and it is right where it says what fluid to use in the transmission!

I'm guessing it uses the same SAE 30 as the engine, but can anyone confirm?

For oil in the engine and transmission, what should I use? TDTO 30? Harvest King 30WT engine oil from Rural King? 15W40 HD engine oil?
