D9g cable controls bearing oiling

Hi, I have a D9g made in in good order over the years. I have just done up the winch and assembled it.  I have a cat service manual for cable controls 128-129.  My question is regarding lubrication of the 3 outer bearings,  8B5966 & 1J9227(bearing assem shaft),  1J6370 (bearing assemb drum)..  see attached diagram.   Do the bearings get automatically oiled, or do I need to pack them with grease when assembling the winch?

The service manual does not specify and I can’t see how oil can run back there.

thanks in advance

Daniel.

I wouldn't grease them if they are oil bath bearings. Grease can prevent proper lubrication by the oil. I can't see any zerks in that drawing so I assume it is an oil bath setup but someone with more experience with D9 CCU's will hopefully help out.

No mention of any special lubrication requirements in the "Lubrication Chart" Operation & Maintenance Instructions for the 129 and 128. Eight quarts of crankcase oil in the gear box is all that is required. Wouldn't hurt to do a light grease/lube on assembly.

one thing that might help is can you remember where they oily or greasy when you removed the originals. it will surprise you how fine a gap oil can flow into. for instance conrod journals only have a few thou clearance and on a lot of old stuff where only splash fed. the crank or the rod had a oil slinger. most small engines still use this idea. sae 30 isnt that heavy.
if you put a piece of steel in a tin of oil overtime it will draw up the steel by capillary action.
they must be lubed somehow. as there is seals to keep lube in and dirt out.
