Wow, might be better to find a short block or another used engine and rebuild it. Some 955L's around being parted out.

any good engiine shop should be able to find you bearings to suit or bore weld and line bore the main journals back to size. generally the oversize is to allow for worn crank not spun bearings. its also possible to use devcon metal putties or similar to repair the bearing bodies.

first step is talk to a good engine reco shop first. it all comes down to how much money you want to spend just about anything can be repaired if your willing to spend the money.

as for pistons they may be recoverable. if new arent available via cat etc jp pistons can make them to suit just about any engine.

Hello Rome
Going by the intake pipework and the exhaust risers, I think that is a D330.

I'm finally getting around to rebuilding this engine. I want to use genuine Cat parts but am skeptical of the reman cylinder packs sold by Cat. Caterpillar requires the liner, piston and rod as a core. If you are missing the liners or pistons they charge you for the core! $230.00 per hole! Why? Aren't liners and pistons scrap? If I order a reman piston pack am I potentially getting used liners and/or pistons? I realize that the rod will be used but I want new liners and pistons. Does anyone know if the liners and pistons are new in a Cat cylinder pack or are they remanufactured? I've called several Cat tech lines and parts dealers and I got conflicting answers. Most of them don't really know. Thanks,Randy

Maybe better to order individual parts instead.

liners are probably new piston and rods would be reman and of course the bearings and seals will be new. there is nothing wrong with reman parts there a cost effective way to get your machine working again. all reman parts have been tested to meet specification and have warranty. if you want new stuff buy new stuff and pay accordingly.

trust me if you put a engine into a workshop to get rebuilt often the only new parts are seals, rings bearings and gaskets. unless the engine is worn enough to require re-boring or new sleeves most of the old parts are reused. the exception is bolts many engines now use torque to yield fasteners.
