Cat R2 6J electric starter question

More
2 years 4 months ago #239520 by Peter C
Can anyone who has an R2 J series with an electric starter please tell me manufacturer and model of starter. A picture would be nice also if you have one. I either have to get a crank or a starter.

Also, does anyone know if all R2 J series came with a ring gear on the flywheel even if they didn't have any starter? Mine has a ring gear but no evidence of any battery box or electrical system having been mounted.

Thanks
Pete

My R2 4J machine does not have a ring gear
I cant imagine that anyone would have removed it

And I regret not installing one when I had it apart

Greg,
Thanks for the response. The only one of my 22’s with a ring gear came with an electric start. My R2 has a ring gear but, like you, I can’t imagine that anyone would have removed the starter and battery box. The only holes in the fender are for the tool box.

maybe its had a replacement engine or flywheel. or at some point in the production run they decided to fit ring gears to all flywheels and just carry the one part. and electric start was a option you could order ex factory. like the later d4 u series had the spot in the casting to take a starter motor for direct start even though they still had pilot engines.
