If my memory serves me rightly, Caterpillar had licensed Steelweld Pty Ltd to manufacture graders, dozer blades, cable controls and other items for several years before they established Caterpillar of Australia and they bought the Steelweld company at about the time of said establishment.

I also seem to remember that Steeweld was the first company outside the U.S. to be licensed to manufacture Caterpillar products
