In the D2 article posted in the machines section of this site it lists the specs for the J series and U series. The weights are considerably different...
What accounts for this difference? Is the D311 engine that much lighter?

That weight on the J series is incorrect, the shipping weight on the J series is shown as 6850 lbs, and for the early U series the ship weight is 6870 lbs, the later U model is 7430 lbs.

I have changed the figures to the ones Josh has given. I imagine there would be differences between 3j and 5j tractors as well. Josh, are the figures you gave for 3j or 5j ?

Those numbers are for the 5J and 5U, the 3J, 6710 lbs, and the late model 4U is 7175 lbs, I don't have the shipping weight for the early 4U, but it should be about 6710 lbs. For the operating weights add 170 lbs.
