Hi guys, I need some help diagnosing a problem with my D4 7U #1894. The right side brake pedal goes to the floor and does not help turn the tractor. The spring does return the pedal to the proper location. I removed the rectangular panel under the seat / tool box area and put about 15 clockwise turns on the adjuster nut. This adjustment did not change anything. I could see the brake band move when I pushed the pedal down, but it didn't move much. I also removed the inspection cover at the rear but did not see anything abnormal inside. Any ideas?

Angelo! You have to remember what an awesome physical specimen you are - too much leg strength : ) Can you check if the band is floppy/loose? It might be broken, which is not totally uncommon, or maybe the anchors have come loose?

Sounds like time for you to finally remove the seat tank and re-position it after repairing the brakes...
Pin may have fallen out or band rotted away as Neil mentions. Do not forget to adjust from the bottom as well should you replace the brake bands. JM

Spoke with Angelo yesterday (I swear I thought I was talking to James Bond) and he's going to borrow a borescope to peek around the periphery of the band to see what the problem is, and check out the other side as well. But, it's sounding like the deck might have to come off. Still, an opportunity to get back to excellent brakes, plus these West Coast guys with all their late model tractors with great undercarriage and in-seat starting need to get their white lab coats out once in a while ... : )

FWIW- I was wondering it by chance, the bolt coming up from the bottom had fallen out, but I looked and it was still there. Maybe Angelo will get a vision to fix his problem while he watches all the Indy cars going round and round this weekend. Not sure if he will be in the infield (inside the track) but I know if he is, he will get some "visions" there! Meanwhile I will be sucking dirt up at Best of the West Show in Santa Margarita without him.

I found the problem with the right steering brake that was not working. I removed the floor board, then the cover plate and found the pin, washer and cotter pin had slipped out. The amazing thing was that they had not fallen into the "abyss" and was able to fish them out. The other amazing thing was the cotter pin was NEVER split open to keep the pin in place. The cotter pin looked brand new! Anyway, I'm back in business just in time for our June show. Special thanks to Crawler Dollars for making the trip with me to do some recon on the problem. Part
